Dorothy Costume Photoshoot

I was recently approached with a unique proposition - to photograph a costume that had been created as part of a university course.

It sounded very interesting - the costume was created for the character of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (the book version not the film version). One of the objectives of the costume design was that it had to be created entirely from denim!

The dress itself is beautiful, intricately stitched together with poppy details and red highlights. They were looking for some images to show off the dress and also highlight these small details. After discussing a few ideas we decided that we wanted to mirror the poppy details on the dress somehow and with it not being the right season for poppies, we opted instead to purchase some as a prop.

With good weather forecast and only a few windows of opportunity where everyone was going to be available at the same time, we opted for a sunset shoot next to a lake. The colours that we managed to capture were rather beautiful and helped to accentuate the bright red of the poppies and offset the blue of the dress. Molly seemed to have a lot of fun modelling the dress for us and was so very professional, managing to cope with my varied directions with ease.
